Halloween Pumpkin Crafts for Toddlers

This is a Halloween pumpkin that I made with my granddaughter last year when she was 3 years old.  I was trying to come up with a way for her to paint her own Halloween pumpkin while I was painting my Halloween pumpkins, and I came up with the idea of masking off the areas of the pumpkin that shouldn’t be painted and leaving the areas to be painted exposed.  This is a great Halloween craft for toddlers.

For this project, you will need one small plastic pumpkin, matte black acrylic paint, pearl pink acrylic paint, blue painter’s tape, scissors, and a pencil.

I used blue painter’s tape to cover the pumpkin, and I used a pencil to sketch the face onto the blue tape.  Next, I took scissors and cut out the eyes, nose, mouth, and a bow.

I poured the pink paint out first onto a plastic lid, and my granddaughter painted the mouth and the bow.  I think we put on about 3-4 coats, letting each coat dry before applying the next.  Then I cleaned her paintbrush, gave her the black paint, and she painted the eyes and nose.  The hardest part was getting her to be patient while the paint dried.  She wanted to peel the tape off as soon as she finished painting.

Finally after everything was dry, it was time to reveal her masterpiece.

Ta daa!!!  She was surprised to see what she had made, and showed her Halloween pumpkin to everyone!  (I had to touch up her the bow a little because it got smudged.)

This Halloween craft can be easily adapted for boys and other holiday themes.  You can make clown or even pirate pumpkins.  Whatever you can imagine.
