With love and earnest concern, watching at all times, she makes sure that each move is done correctly to avoid injury.

Personal responsibility for your physical conditioning and nutrition is a common thread that Sher speaks about often in discussing Active Aging. She is a member of IDEA, International Dance Exercise Association and has spoken in churches, women’s conferences and women’s groups emonstrating exercise and discussing wellness techniques. Sher’s program is about hands on, so everyone is encouraged to participate and feel the benefits of exercise. Sher has earned a Bachelor’s of Theology. Share Your Business

I am Sher Harris, I am 68 years old and have been in the health and fitness business teaching fitness classes for 30+ years. My mission is to empower women to improve their health.

We all have some form of health issue from time to time, but what we don’t want is to let things become a problem. It is when we don’t pay attention that issues become a problem. The Bible says…that I wish above all things that you prosper AND be in good health….they go hand in hand. You need good health to be able to achieve wealth, and you need good health to be able to enjoy it.

I have found while working with a health and wellness team, that we CAN defeat bad health. By looking at what we have done to ourselves, what side effects we’ve developed, and then be about the business of reversing what we’ve done. It is never too late, it just demands a commitment.

TB: What is BBU? What do you do? Who is it for?

SH: With a wellness coach and a group of 4 instructors, teaching from Chair Aerobics to Boot Camp, 5 days a week, Body by U proves that working out with others makes the experience much more pleasurable. The promise of fast weight loss is the hook that draws many into an impractical program and leads to setbacks and disappointment.  At Body by U an instructor helps keep you accountable to your goals. Our wellness coach provides health products that keep you energized and strong as your body changes. Results take time and involve lifestyle changes that do not happen overnight. Body by U commits to walk with every member, providing products and fitness to help make the change a reality.

Our programs are perfect for:

  • Anyone that is new to exercise or that has not exercised in a long time,
  • Those not sure where to begin with exercise,
  • Those exercisers with health issues that are afraid to workout,
  • Those who have not been able to find a program that works for their body,
  • And those needing a kind hand and friendly environment to help them along the way.

With a burning desire to minister to the whole being, Sher began helping the local community to re-gain good health by designing programs that are not only healthy and fun, but designed with their body style in mind! These programs encourage dance with moves and music that uplifts the spirit! The classes are designed for those with health challenges such as: diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, and obesity. Hip issues, leg issues and back concerns just to name a few. It is also especially suited for those who have not been able to work out in a while due to knee or back surgery, or stroke, or physical ailments, who don’t feel they will be able to regain their physical conditioning.

Sher taught fitness classes every week to seniors 65 and older in Douglasville, GA. for more than 8 years at their location. Her greatest achievement was the production of an evening out Christmas Party for some 300 participating seniors, for several years in a row.

Offering specialty classes such as our Movin and Groovin Zumba class geared to that active senior that loves to dance, but at a pace that is comfortable to them. This class will rejuvenate your spirit, soul and body. It is a feel-happy workout that is smooth and easy, but effective.

Sarge teaches a teen camp to 13 to 17 year olds to help them prepare for team sports and to be able to bear the physical conditioning necessary to perform. He has also taught a military style workout on the Ricky Smiley Show putting Body by U on a television program for a season. His Basic Boot Camp is designed for those do not want a dance oriented workout, but a circuit type.

Our Line Dancing class is about exercising the whole body at the same time. It promotes brain work and foot work and helps combat Alzierheimers disease.

TB: What is your mission/purpose.

TB: Where is your business headed?

SH: Body by U has opened an online Shop. We currently have tee shirts for

sale, our book, Escaping the Darkness, can be purchased from the Shop along with our detox tea.

Our future goal is to launch our curvy girl workout clothing line with tops and bottoms starting at size 12 to 4x.

We plan to offer more day time classes at local senior facilities and

work with several CNA’s in the area doing in home workouts for the disabled.

As our local community grows, Body by U will be accommodating with new classes and programs as needed to supply the community with the kind of fitness necessary for growth.

Discussion Topic Questions

TB: One of my areas of focus is decision making for women. I share the tips, tools and tricks women can use to make their best choices. How did you get clarity to decide what type of business you wanted to create?

SH: The first time I went to a Jazzercise class and watched and listened to the activity, I knew that was what I wanted to do. I was sitting in a wheelchair because of foot surgery and my prayer was, once I got up, I was bringing this type of programing to my community.

TB: What tools or strategies do you use to help you make your best business decisions?

SH: BBU is a team and before we purchase new equipment or run an ad or any business opportunities, the whole staff is involved in the decision. We weigh the pros and cons from everyone’s point of view before going forward. Sometimes it comes down to my choice, but I believe that everyone should have a voice in what will effect us all.

TB: Do you have any tips for time management?

SH: Listen to your body. This is an area that I have difficulty with. I tend to go and go until I can’t go anymore and God will stop me and make me lie down. Don’t do that. Be accountable to someone for your health.

TB: Thank you for sharing your wisdom and dedication to helping people be fit, Sher.
