“The only person you are destined to become is the person you DECIDE to be.” ~ Ralph Waldo Emerson (attrib.)
I am sure you know or have seen people who appear to get everything they want. You might even wonder what these people do that you aren’t doing? The truth is they set goals, make decisions to go after those goals, and take extra actions to go harder to get them. When they do all they can, they still do more anyway.
Successful people get what they want because they are:
- Persistent. Accomplished people never stop pursuing what they truly want. Even when they feel they have done everything possible, they dig down deeper to find just a small percent more to use to go a little farther. They ask for what they want. These people continue to seek what they have claimed, even when there is no evidence they are making progress. They never let that stop them.Keep going on your path. If you want to get fit, do a few more reps, laps, pushups, etc. Eat less and choose clean, healthy foods even when the scale “lies.” Building a business? Make one more call, promote your offer to more people — whatever it takes — even when all you hear are crickets.
- Consistent. Those who are victorious pursue what they want on a daily basis and stay focused on their goals. They live and breathe what they have decided to have until they obtain it. They develop habits, practices and routines that help them to stay on track.Don’t rely on just your will to be powerful enough to get to the other side. In the beginning it will not be as strong. Your willpower will need to be strengthened and developed over time. Just stay with it, and don’t quit.
- Resistant. Winners ignore outside influences and opinions that would move them away from their target. They, especially, avoid following and listening to people who have not accomplished what they desire. You have to separate yourself from lack-minded people. If you want to be a millionaire, you need to get your advice from other millionaires. Same for any other goal you’ve set for yourself. Surround yourself with ambitious people.
Also, successful people are very honest with themselves. They don’t blame others and take full responsibility for their choices.
I have several goals—from financial growth to better health. First, I had to be truthful with myself about where I am right now versus where I want to be. Next, I had to own all my excuses and let them go. I am responsible for all this—good and not so good. Last, I DECIDED to reach my goals.
Now, that I have chosen my objectives, I have to be persistent, consistent and resistant to achieve them. To be truly successful, I need to accomplish what I set out to do, PLUS do a little bit more. I know it is the extra that will push me to the levels where I want to be.
Have you set new goals for this year? What are you willing to do to get what you want? Are you determined to get there no matter what? Will you do just a little bit extra to ensure that you win? If yes, expect greatness for your future.
We’ve got this!
